The logo of Clachan Cohousing

Clachan Cohousing

I got a call from one of the Clachan Cohousing team looking to galvanise the project by giving it an identity. I had to understand what the project was to be able to create something that I felt summed up the project, its ideals and its purpose.

This cohousing project aims to build a development of 22 dwellings, based around more communal spaces to grow fruit and vegetables and dine together at certain times. The potential inhabitants are united in their desire to live a more low-impact lifestyle.

The Celtic knot dates back to the c. 800 A.D. Book of Kells and beyond. I took the symbology of unity, interlinking and connectedness that such a housing project epitomises and worked with a contemporary take on the Celtic knot, to suggest a roof, a structure. The colours tie the land and sky together, reinforcing the notion of connectedness.

It’s easy to read deeply into designs and ideas, but you know what? Sometimes it’s best to take things at face value and enjoy them for what they are.
