Blast From The Past
I was going through some old stuff a few weeks ago and came across this CD. I haven’t listened to it since 2001 but today put it on in the bike workshop whilst working on a couple of bikes. This was recorded as a showcase mix for whatever reason that I can’t remember (hazy times). We, as Jengaheads, were flying high at that point. We released our first (and only) single, Caborkebab. We had our own radio show to play whatever we wanted and to goof off as the mood took us. We were playing all over the country with forays into Europe. Fun times!
I put it into the CD player, not quite sure of what I would hear, but you know what? We were pretty fucking good. It is a tight mix, spanning the styles that we were both playing at the time. For me, just happy that I managed to get something down without crashing a mix. That was back in the days when it was all vinyl and all skill based, not all the modern, digital, auto beat-match bollocks.
If I ever put needle to vinyl again, it will be just that and only that. Reggae, dub and ska – gentle, not trying to recreate or relive the 90s. Those times are gone and quite rightly so. There we are then.
