A Gentleman’s Accoutrements
On a recent journey through Doune, in Stirlingshire, a little shop caught our eye, so we parked and wandered back to The Desirable Curio for a peruse. This fine pocket knife caught my eye amongst the multitude of displays and cabinets of well curated antiques, curios and trinkets. I love pocket knives, as mentioned previously in this article, I have a small collection. This Fox knife is a cracker and has been well looked after and kept sharp over the years.
The beautiful leather case it came with is not its natural partner. The button is marked ‘King of The Forest’ and the belt loop on the back is marked ‘Eskilstuna’, a town in Sweden often known as the town of blacksmiths and ironworkers. I don’t know at the moment whether this pocket knife case is a souvenir from a Swedish sojourn, or whether it came with a knife made in the town. Maybe somewhere out there knows. If you are reading this and have knowledge of either origins of knife or case, please get in touch.
This knife came from someone’s personal collection and I shall cherish as part of mine.
